INTRODUCING RUBATO.
Trailer for the game's Kickstarter campaign. Heralded as a cinematic masterpiece. Nominated for multiple Oscars. And a Bafta. And even a Grammy.
RUBATO is an experimental, 2D physics-based take on the collect-a-thon genre. The game is set for an independently published PC release in 2025, with console porting and publishing being handled by Headcannon (Sonic Mania Plus, Pier Pressure).
The game is being developed by mostly one person, with a small art team creating the visuals.
Look at all that "Game"!
Use your tongue to lick enemies and objects to make your way through metroidvania-like areas, whilst collecting "Planet Bits" to help fix the solar system! Journey through 5 uniquely themed areas ranging from a huge sprawling bakery to the world's most poorly planned city.
RUBATO has the style of a long-lost game from a certain dual-screen handheld device, mixed with an early 2000's inspired soundtrack. The game has a strange, funny plot with a deep focus on humour and character writing. Expect incredibly weird characters and scenarios, ranging from fighting a giant dumpling with very toned legs to driving physics-based clown cars in a grand prix.
The game also houses a deep ancient evil that you ABSOLUTELY have to promise to not release into the mortal realm when you play the game.
Oh. I guess it escaped. Great.
